Resin Monstera Leaf Earrings

The monstera leaf is one of my favorite things in the world. I have monstera leaf patterns all over my house and I love drawing them too.

Epoxy resin is a durable, usually clear or translucent material, that comes in two parts: the resin and the hardener. When the two parts are mixed together, a chemical reaction occurs that changes the epoxy from a liquid to a solid. When you mix the 2 parts together, you have the option of adding colorants and other inclusions such as sand, glitter, mica, and more. In my case, I used a tiny amount of paint.

You ever see these professional jewelry pieces and think, "where can I buy that earring or pendant piece?" Well, guess what? With the right silicone mold and some resin, you can make it yourself! It takes a little patience and forethought and you'll be amazed!

At first, I really didn't think that I could do something like this. I actually shocked myself when I accomplished it the first time. And you know you did a good job when people stop you on the street and ask that same question I asked, "Where did you buy that?".

I can help you get to that point, tip by tip. ❤️

I tried to keep supplies to a minimum, I used simple tools you can find anywhere in your house. For example, I used a past discarded plastic measuring cup from a detergent bottle to hold the resin and a plastic container from some brownies I devoured in two minutes to cover the resin while it hardened and dried. I used toothpicks to paint and get tiny hairs out of the resin and used a cheap wooden cuticle pusher to mix the resin. All things I would have thrown out but come in handy because if you go to websites that sell these silly supplies, they cost an arm for no reason. So why pay money when you have the tools right there?

Through my 15+ years of crocheting, I have made it my goal to show the world we are more than just doily and blanket makers. And as a curious DIY crafter, I'm always getting into other projects away from the hook and yarn too. Let's make something together!
