Materials and Tools Needed
16-Gauge bronze wire - Avoid aluminum for this part, as it’s too soft and may lose form.
20-Gauge gold-plated copper wire. Used for the earring hooks and gives a polished finish without the cost of real gold.
28-Gauge Gold-Plated Aluminum Wire. Thinner wire adds a delicate texture to the leaf’s webbing.
Wire Cutters - Precision is key for neat edges, so choose sharp, reliable cutters.
Plasti Dip-Coated Pliers - Protects your metal from scratches while gripping.

1. Creating the Leaf Outline
Begin by straightening a piece of 16-gauge bronze wire.
Shape the wire into a basic leaf form, with the pointed end at the top. You can use your hands or pliers to shape it.
At the top of the leaf, create a slight bend. This area will form the frame of your leaf, providing stability and structure.
2. Securing the Frame
Once you’ve shaped the leaf outline, use your pliers to secure any open ends.
If the shape needs adjustments, make them now, pinching the wire carefully with your pliers to prevent scratching.
3. Adding the Webbing
With the 28-gauge gold-plated aluminum wire, start wrapping the inner webbing. This will act as the “veins” of your leaf.
Begin by wrapping the wire around one side of the frame, zig-zagging across to create the webbed effect. Be gentle with this thin wire, as it can snap if pulled too tightly.
Continue wrapping, crossing back and forth until you reach the top of the leaf. Keep the wraps as close as possible for a clean finish.
4. Securing the Webbing
Once you’re satisfied with the webbing, wrap the remaining wire around the frame a few times to secure it. Trim any excess with wire cutters.
5. Creating the Earring Hook
Take the 20-gauge gold-plated copper wire and form a small loop at one end.
Attach the hook to the top of the leaf frame, ensuring a tight, secure wrap around the post to hold the earring in place.
Adjust the hook’s shape and trim any excess wire for a clean, professional look.
6. Final Touches
Check your earring for any sharp edges and smooth them with a file if needed.
Repeat the process to create a matching pair.
Troubleshooting Tips
If your wires are slipping or scratching, try using Plasti Dip-coated pliers for a better grip.
Avoid pulling the wire too tight to prevent snapping, especially with thin wires.
