Yarn Storage Solution- Yarn Wall

Looking for a yarn storage solution? This is the best yarn storage solution that I could come up with. I always kept my yarn messy and needed to get more organized. You could find skeins of yarn in bags, bins, and rolling like tumbleweeds around the house. Is it me, or can you relate? A pegboard yarn wall has always been my dream way to store all my yarn. So when I decided to make one I wanted to document it so you can get inspired too!

Total cost of Yarn Wall:  (2) Pegboard $30 +  (40) 1/4" dowels $35 + Husbands help = $65 and 6 pack of PBR

Supplies

• Peg Board (4 ftx8 ft) - We had to get it cut at the store so it could fit in the car.

2inch wood screws.

• Scrap wood. At least 1/2 inch thick.

1/4inch dowels. Cut at 5inch lengths.

Drill with Phillips bit

We screwed the wood pieces into studs (16inches on center) to make the yarn wall more sturdy. If you can't hit any studs then use wall anchors, aka wall mollies. Then screw the pegboard to the pieces of wood. If you had to cut the pegboard like we did, make sure you align the pegboard halfway on the wood on each side.

The main reason I went with 1/2inch pieces of wood was so I didn't have to glue the dowels in. The dowels are just about the same size as the holes in the pegboard. So all I had to do was push the dowels in until the hit the wall. I strongly suggest wearing gloves when pushing them in. It's easier to actually turn the dowels almost like screwing them in when putting them in the holes.

As you can see, because we are using the 1/2inch wood, it allows me to push the dowels in. This keeps the dowel sturdy enough to hold the yarn. If the wood is where you want to put a dowel, then that's when you need to drill into the wood to make the hole deeper.

I now had to prepare all my 200+ skeins of yarn into balls, aka cakes. After two weeks of winding all my yarn manually, I think my right arm is bigger than my left, lol. I know there are electric ones but they would get loud and whiny and would go too fast for me. After that, it was time to make my rainbow!
