Why am I sewing clothes for a doll and singing Mr. Jones all day long? First of all, just because I crochet doesn’t mean I am a master of all things stitch related. And second, even though I do love the 90’s, I don’t take big yellow taxis anymore. With that being said, when you have a custom order for a contest, you just have to make it happen.
I was asked to crochet a doll in the likeness of Adam Duritz, the lead singer of the Counting Crows. The contest was posted on the OFFICIAL Counting Crows Facebook Fan Page. I was super excited because I love the challenge. Of course, the hardest part was making the doll look as much like Adam as possible. He has unique enough features to know that it is him, but I want to take it to the next level.
After doing some research I found that he was known for wearing a specific outfit. The basic jeans and an Andy Warhol shirt are what I decided for him. He started off with fully crochet jeans with his t-shirt being made with part of a real t-shirt. It took me a while to figure out how to make a tiny t-shirt for a doll!
When they receive him in the mail, they put him in their purses and bring him to Counting Crow shows around the country and that’s just plain cool.
Since then I have made some updates. One day I decided to change him up and put REAL jeans on him and everyone went crazy. I also give the customer the option of a goatee or a full beard. If you want your very own Adam Duritz doll, please visit my Esty store.
I make him so much that I decided to show you how I make his clothes. If you want to make clothes for your dolls, hope this video helps you out. If you know how to do it better or faster please leave a comment below!
Through my 15+ years of crocheting, I have made it my goal to show the world we are more than just doily and blanket makers. And as a curious DIY crafter, I’m always getting into other projects away from the hook and yarn too.
